SOUTH is the second track on HENDO's debut album MOTION, produced by seke wok, directed by fellow UK artist REECEG and distributed by Polydor Records. SOUTH is the most streamed track from the project and challenges the stereotypes of gang violence and crime in South London. Born and raised in the South-East London borough of Bromley, HENDO uses slick lyricism to paint a picture of life living in South London as a youth. The track has a large focus on recreational drug use and the effect it had on his view on the world, warping his perception of South London, ignoring gang violence, hence the bar "it's a lovely day inna da south." This is heavily contradicted by gang events such as The Gang War of 2002, between The Bethnal Green Mob, the Collins Gang, The Triads and The Yardies. There is also a heavy influence from late 2000's-early 2010's Barclay's Premier League footballers throughout the MOTION album and is no different in SOUTH. , referencing his favourite era of football. His love for unique strikers is evident throughout the track, with two former Premier League players mentioned. The first of which being English striker Peter Crouch, who was renowned for being incredibly tall for a footballer, standing at 6'7 copping the nickname "Two-Meter Peter". He made 720 career appearances for clubs such as Liverpool, Spurs and Portsmouth, netting 199 goals. The second player mentioned is Mario Balotelli, nicknamed "Super Mario", Balotelli was known as an extremely controversial Italian striker, who was known for his off-field antics and goal celebrations, the most famous being the "why always me?" celebration in the 2011/12 Manchester Derby, that HENDO later references on the track COSY later in the album. HENDO states the album is inspired by 90's and early 2000's US rap, whilst combining the sound with instrumentals that more resemble the UK chill rap genre. He revealed that rappers such as Prodigy and Nas were big inspirations to him, but none more than the late MF DOOM, an artist he strives to be viewed in the same light as. DOOM also inspired him to use ALL CAPS for his song titles and album titles.
